Frank Maloney Boxing: Tony Jeffries Public Workout On Saturday

By Boxing Press June 25th, 2009 All Press Releases

In preparation for his next fight in two weeks time in Sunderland, Olympic boxer Tony Jeffries is preparing for his third professional fight this weekend and raising vital funds to build a new hospice for children in the region.

A boxing ring will be erected in the central mall of the Bridges shopping centre in Sunderland on Saturday 27th June.

Tony Jeffries will be taking himself through the paces and demonstrating a full 2 hour, pre-fight work-out between 12 noon and 2pm with Bobby Rimmer, former coach of Ricky Hatton who is now coach to Jeffries in Manchester.

There is a full day of activities in the mall. Boxers from the Lambton Street Boxing Club directed by Tony Austin will be demonstrating between 9am and 12 noon and senior boxers from the Olympian Boxing Gym, Ryhope, will be there between 2 and 5pm.

Tony, who is a celebrity friend of Grace House North East Children's Hospice Appeal, and the Bridges Shopping Centre in Sunderland, have chosen to put this special event on this weekend to raise money for the appeal.

During the day junior boxers will be collecting in the Bridges and Tony will be signing autographs for fans after the work-out and collecting donations for the charity.

The Grace House North East Children's Hospice Appeal is raising money to build a hospice for children and their families who live in the North East of England.

It is estimated that there are 1000 children in the North East who need this type of care and unfortunately there is only 12 hospice beds to serve the whole of the region (the lowest provision throughout the UK).

This new hospice will provide a much needed service and support for local children.

Tickets for Tony's next fight, which will be staged at the Seaburn Centre, Seaburn, Sunderland on Friday July 10th 2009 will also be on sale.

Tickets are priced at £80 for ring side and £40 for others.
