TKO Boxing: Sergio Mora Added To Broadcast Team On Pala Casino Fight Card

By Boxing Press August 9th, 2009 All Press Releases

Former junior middleweight world champion Sergio Mora is headed to “TKO World Championship Boxing at the Pala Casino” set for Saturday, August 22nd at the Pala Casino Spa and Resort in Pala, California.

Mora, who most recently split a pair of world title bouts with Vernon Forrest in 2008, will serve as the special guest at the event in addition to handling broadcast duties on the tape delayed broadcast. He also was the winner of NBC’s first season of the boxing reality show, The Contender, in 2005.

“TKO World Championship Boxing at the Pala Casino” is headlined by an IBO Junior Middleweight Championship bout between Philadelphia’s Anthony Thompson and Grady Brewer, winner of The Contender, Season Two.

Said Mora about the main event, “I know both guys very well having seen many of their fights. I feel that Brewer has a slight edge, he’s already beaten Thompson even though it was five years ago. Brewer’s a very smart, highly experienced boxer with a great skill set."

"For Thompson it’s a tough fight but one he can win if he can overcome the fact that he already lost to Brewer once. Besides the world title, which is so important for both guys, there’s a lot at stake in a fight like this. The winner will be in a terrific position for even greater opportunities.”

The August 22nd event at the Pala Casino is TKO Boxing Promotions’ first event in Southern California, a boxing scene that the lifelong area resident Mora knows very well.

“The last couple of years Southern California has truly experienced a great period for professional boxing. Starting off with the 20,000 fans that were at Mosley vs. Margarito in January at the Staples Center, this year has been terrific with great fights and terrific fan support at all levels of shows."

“I’m very happy that Chet and the TKO team are promoting shows at the Pala Casino, it’s another opportunity for boxing fans in Southern California to see great fights at a terrific venue”, said Mora.

Other outstanding prospects previously announced for “TKO World Championship Boxing at the Pala Casino” include San Diego middleweight K.J. Noons, 8-2-0 (5KO’s), Mexican junior featherweight Rafael Valenzuela, 12-1-0 (6KO’s), Vietnamese featherweight Dat Nguyen, 15-1-0 (6KO's) and Los Angeles based bantamweight Leo Santa Cruz, 9-0-1 (2KO’s).

Further details of “TKO World Championship Boxing at the Pala Casino” will be announced shortly.
