Yesterday, SaddoBoxing was one of the first to report that WBO super featherweight titlist “Mighty” Mike Anchondo had lost his belt on the scales after failing to make the 130-pound limit. This writer has made continual attempts to contact Team Anchondo this morning, but has not received any calls back. Jorge Barrios was gracious enough to take my |
call and give me his perspective on the weigh-in and his thoughts on Anchondo.
“He’s a coward and a disgrace to the sport of boxing. How can a so-called champion come in weighing 134-and-a-half-pounds for a fight that is for 130-pounds? I weighed 128-pounds. I am a warrior and have a great respect for the sport and the fans that pay money to see us. That fat boy is just getting ready to have an excuse for when I beat him down tonight. He disrespected the fans of this sport, his management team, and his promoters by not honoring his responsibilities as a professional fighter. It does not matter. I’m going to punish him for the fans and his promoters. I going to beat him and stop him in six rounds. He was there at the weigh-in with sunglasses like some kind of princess. When his weight was announced, he just stepped down like if nothing. He looked at me with an attitude. I told him to focus on the scale fat boy not me. His team stepped in to protect him. The little girl was not even willing to sweat any weight off. He’s a sissy and I will punish him tonight. He just showed me even more that he is scared of me. When a fighter does not get ready properly, that means he does not want to fight. He is running scared and nothing can save him now. He is not a Mexican. He has the Mexican and American flags with him. I’m from Argentina and carry only that one flag. He is from the United States. Is he ashamed of that? Why does he have the two flags? He is a disgrace to both countries.”
