CES Boxing: Andrade Fighting In Rhode Island On Friday

A year ago, 2008 Olympian Demetrius “The Cape Verdean Assassin” Andrade was a world amateur champion representing the United States in the Olympic Games.

Now, considered one of the top pro prospects in the world, Demetrius returns home to fight Friday night in the 6-round co-feature on the “School’s In” card, at the Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, Rhode Island.

Poor scoring at the Olympics may have left Andrade with a sour taste, but the junior middleweight has moved on as his pro journey takes him, hopefully, to even greater heights.

“All of that is in the past,” Andrade said. “I learned never to put the final result of a fight in the hands of the judges. I either knock out my opponent or beat him badly to where there’s no doubt I won.

“I’ve been training hard in the gym for this fight. I really love fighting at home. There’s no added pressure on me at all. I like it better than being far away from home in a hotel room. Here, I enjoy chillin’ out with my family and friends. I’m much more comfortable fighting at home and look forward to it.”

“School’s In” is presented by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment and Sports Inc. (CES), in association with Twin River. Andrade (5-0, 4 KOs) meets unbeaten John Williams (3-0-1, 2 KOs) in the 6-round co-feature, in association with Banner Promotions and Star Boxing.

Eastern Boxing Association (EBA) super middleweight “Irish” Joey McCreedy (10-3-1, 5 KOs), fighting out of Lowell (MA), battles Lawrence’s (MA) hard-hitting Eddie “Thunder” Caminero (5-2, 5 KOs) for Merrimack Valley bragging rights in the 8-round main event for McCreedy’s EBA belt as well as the vacant New England crown.

Former University of Rhode Island football player, Providence super middleweight Vladine Biosse (2-0, 2 KOs), faces Robert Graves (0-1) in a 4-round bout. Providence cruiserweight Jay Holland (3-0, 2 KOs) meets Rodricka Ray (2-3, 1 KO), Providence super featherweight Omar Pena (2-0-1) squares-off against Israel Suarez (1-2, 0 KOs), and Hartford junior middleweight David Bauza makes his pro debut versus Antonio Fernandez (0-2), of Brockton.

Peabody (MA) super lightweight Simeon Dunwell (9-1, 2 KOs) and Pawtucket super lightweight Diego Pereira (4-0, 2 KOs) are also scheduled to fight on the “School’s In” show in separate 4-round matches against opponents to be determined. All bouts and boxers are subject to change.

Rollback ticket prices for “School’s In” are $35.00, $50.00, $100.00 ($15.00 redeemable free play at Twin River), and limited $150.00 Jimmy’s Platinum Club ($25.00 redeemable free play at Twin River), and are available to purchase by calling CES (401.724.2253/2254), going online at www.cesboxing.com or www.twinriver.com, at Twin River’s Players Club booth at Twin River, or any TicketMaster location
