Risum Boxing’s Kenyan globetrotter David Kiilu (30-10-2, 16 KOs) will travel to Dublin, Ireland to take on IBF International and IBA Intercontinental featherweight champion Patrick Hyland (17-0, 8 KOs) on September 26 at the O2 Arena.
The fight will be contested over eight rounds, and on the undercard of WBA super bantamweight champion Bernard Dunne’s first title defence against Thailand’s Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym.
Kiilu, who is the reigning UBC lightweight champion, last fought on June 5 when he lost a spirited challenge for the WBC Mediterranean featherweight title in Romania against undefeated Viorel Simion.
Before that he won the UBC title stopping Dariusz Snarski in Poland, and he will now be looking to once again go to his opponent’s backyard and return home with a victory.
Hyland won the IBA title in March this year when he defeated Nicaraguan Carlos Guevara in America, and most recently captured the vacant I BF International belt with a unanimous decision over tough Ugandan Abdu Tebazalwa in July.
There is no doubt that Kiilu will get his hands full in Dublin, but manager Henrik Risum believes that an on-form Kiilu could cause an upset, saying:
“David can win this one if the believes in himself. When he is at his best, he is a beautiful boxer and a very hard man to beat. But Hyland is good, and David must be at his best to prevail”.
Also on the show, EU lightweight champion Andy Murray defends his title against Italian challenger Pasquale Di Silvio.
Another Risum Boxing protégée, Kim Poulsen (12-1, 3 KOs), just entered the EU rankings, so manager Risum will be paying special attention to this clash while in Dublin.
