Boxing Perspective: Good Times For Jean Pascal

By Jose Espinoza September 10th, 2009 All Boxing Articles

There are few boxers in the business who have the charisma and ability that Jean Pascal demonstrates. The 26 year-old fighter from Montreal is living the life and enjoying every minute of his well deserved fame.

No one will forget Pascal’s form against Carl Froch in a WBC super middleweight title contest that is still being talked about as one of England’s best fights of the year.

Unfortunately for Pascal, he lost the fight but won the respect of many boxing fans and established a name for himself as a fearless fighter.

During the summer, Pascal won the WBC light heavyweight belt from an undefeated Adrian Diaconu by unanimous decision.

On September 25, 2009, Jean Pascal will face Italy’s Silvio Branco at the Bell Centre in Montreal. This will be Pascal’s first title defence and he is looking in great physical form, with lighting fast movement and a good hard punch.

Branco has been appointed the official mandatory challenger for Pascal by the WBC. At age 43, Branco is coming off four straight victories, while his best win came in 2000 when he defeated future light heavyweight champ Glen Johnson in a 12-round super middleweight bout.

It’s easy to understand what Branco has done to earn himself a title shot, having been in 70 pro bouts, he'll be looking to notch his 60th career win.

Branco is a highly experienced boxer who moves well for his age and has an effective jab. The Italian contender will be working on his past experience to guide him toward victory.

As for Jean Pascal, his future looks good as a win against Branco will land him as a candidate for the WBC's "Fighter of the Year" award and not to mention the possibility of a re-match against Carl Froch or a big money fight in the light heavyweight division.

Pascal vs. Branco is a fight not to be missed!
