Risum Boxing: “Golden Boy” Poulsen Ready For Eight Rounds In November

By Boxing Press September 15th, 2009 All Press Releases

Everything was more or less set for an announcement of Kim Poulsen’s next fight, planned for October in Germany, but when the show was postponed it unfortunately became impossible for the Danish lightweight to participate as the new date collides with a long-ago-planned trip to Kenya.

“Its been in our planning for a long time that Kim’s next fight were to be in early October, and that he would then join his trainer Brian Mathiasen on a trip to Kenya and return in late October," says manager Henrik Risum.

"As things are now, we will unfortunately have to wait for the next fight to be some time in November, and I am working on a solution”.

Risum also confirms that the next outing for Poulsen is intended to be over eight rounds against someone who can test the 22-year-old in different ways, saying: “Coming off two quick knockouts, Kim needs, if possible, to fight a full eight-round fight to gain another little piece of experience.

"I would like to match him against someone with a good record in November, but at the very least I want someone who is known for durability and for testing up-and-coming prospects.

"The next three or four fights should be about getting him ready to swim in deeper waters, and that is our plan, but of course you never know how things play out.”

Poulsen last fought in June when he destroyed Tanzanian puncher Obote “The Thunder” Ameme in two rounds in Horsens, Denmark, capturing an Intercontinental title in the process.

While the fight itself was short and, some would say, turned out too easy for Poulsen, it was educational in the way that he now knows what it takes to prepare for a title fight. But Poulsen has yet to fight more than six rounds, and so it is hoped he will do just that in November.
