TKO Boxing Signs Veteran Edner Cherry

By Boxing Press September 26th, 2009 All Press Releases

Former world title challenger Edner Cherry has signed an exclusive promotional contract with TKO Boxing Promotions, it was announced today by Chet Koerner, its President.

Said Koerner, “TKO Boxing Promotions is thrilled to add Edner to our growing team of outstanding international fighters. Edner’s toughness and world class skills have made him a fan favorite not only in Florida but to boxing fans across the country who have watched his numerous televised bouts.”

“We look forward to working with Edner and our team is very confident he will become a world champion in the near future.”

The 27 year old Cherry, 24-6-2 (12KO’s), is a native of the Bahamas now living in Wauchula, Florida. Most recently he challenged world champion Timothy Bradley for his WBC Junior Welterweight title on September 13, 2008, losing a very hard fought twelve round decision on a bout broadcast on Showtime.

Prior to the Bradley bout, Cherry had knocked out former world champion Stevie Johnston and beaten highly regarded veteran Wes Ferguson in back-to-back bouts.

Said Chris Middendorf, CEO and Director of Boxing Operations for TKO, "What makes working with Edner so exciting is that he will be moving down to junior lightweight. When you consider his last fight was for the WBC 140lb title, the Cherry Bomb will be very explosive at 130!”

In 2006, Cherry was named “Boxer of the Year” by ESPN after the network broadcast four of his outstanding bouts against Marco Angel Perez, Monty Meza Clay, Daniel Alicea and Jose Armando Santa Cruz.

Details of Cherry’s first bout under the TKO banner will be announced shortly.

Cherry is managed by the team of Cameron Dunkin and Tony Morgan. Dunkin also guides the careers of world champions Kelly Pavlik, Steven Luevano and Nonito Donaire along with sensational Russian middleweight prospect Matvey Korobov.
