InterBox and Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM) are proud to announce that all parties have officially come to terms on the staging of a highly anticipated world title rematch bout.
WBC Light Heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (24-1-0, 16 KO) from Laval, and former WBC champion Adrian "The Shark" Diaconu (26-1-0 15 KO) from Montreal will rematch on Friday, December 11th 2009 at the Montreal Bell Centre.
Presented by the Casino de Montreal, this bout will mark Jean Pascal’s second defense of the title he won against Adrian Diaconu last June 19th in a war between two fierce competitors.
Pascal won the title by way of unanimous decision in what many observers believe to be one of the best local bouts in the history of Canada and a strong contender for Fight of the Year honors on the International scene.
Once again, both promoters worked together and finalized all agreements this morning. The RACJ, represented by its new Director of Combat Sports Mr. Michel Hamelin, and the WBC, represented by its President Mr. Jose Sulaiman Chagnon, both approved the staging of this Championship bout.
Jean Pascal is coming off a brilliant victory (TKO 10) against mandatory opponent Silvio Branco from Italy . Diaconu will be looking to reclaim the title he lost at the hands of Pascal who, like Diaconu, has already begun training.
Pascal will be present in Nottingham this weekend to attend the “Super Six” tournament and encourage Carl Froch to victory. Diaconu will be joining fellow Countryman and stablemate Lucian Bute in Florida as of next week to begin more intense training.
