Vitali Klitschko underwent successful back surgery Tuesday in Los Angeles, and the World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion should be able to fight again in September, according to Bernd Boente, Personal Manager, Klitschko Brothers. The 35-minute operation was performed by Dr. Hyun Bae, who removed a small spur from Klitschko’s spine. Vitali will be prohibited from flying for three weeks, so he will not be in the corner of his younger brother, Wladimir, when the former World Boxing Organization (WBO) heavyweight champion faces unbeaten Eliseo Castillo on Saturday in Germany on HBO (9:45 p.m. ET/PT). It will be the first time one of the brothers has not worked the other’s fight. Vitali Klitschko will have to rehab for approximately six weeks, and can begin training in June, said Bernd Boente, Personal Manager Klitschko Brothers.
