Boxing In Mexico: Arce Returns With WBO Title Win

It was a jubuilant scene last night at Restaurante Arroyo in Mexico City as favorite son Jorge Arce delivered a good performance to capture the vacant WBO super flyweight title.

30 year old Los Mochis resident Arce engaged in a toe to toe slugfest with Indonesia’s Angky Angkota and not surprisingly was dominating the action for the majority of the bout.

Southpaw Angkota suffered a bad cut over the right eye from a head clash and the bout was stopped in the seventh with Arce declared the winner by technical decision.

Arce improves to 53-6-1 (40), and is likely set to engage in a series of high profile defenses while Angkota heads back to Indonesia with a 23-5 (14) record.

Super bantam Jackie Nava, 21-3-2 (10), had to come off the canvas to annex the vacant WBC Female title with a ten round UD against Shantel Martinez, 8-4 (1).
