British Lightweight Champion Graham Earl had to accept the postponement of his Title fight with Commonwealth Champion, Kevin Bennett on May 12th when a wrist injury forced him to suspend training for 2 weeks.
Earl received treatment during a sparring session from his trainer, but lacked his usual zip after a few rounds.
Earl said the injury, diagnosed as a mild sprain, occurred just as he was getting into his best rhythm.
He said in a statement "I just felt something the wrong way”, "Right now they don't think there's anything long-term, but it's going to take some rest."
Earl said his trainer told him he risked further injury by continuing. When taping the wrist didn't help, he accepted the fate.
"I think that's what all boxers are scared of: doing something major, where you're out months, "That's always scary and in the back of your mind. It's tough to concentrate on training when you hear those voices."
Earl has said "I don't know if there's anything more frustrating than trying to do something, being expected to do something, and not really feeling like you can do it to the best of your abilities," he said. You haven't seen the best of me yet."
The fight has been rescheduled to Thursday 16th June at the same venue.
