Boxing In Britain: Every Day A 15 Rounder For Frank Maloney

Frank Maloney is working a 15 hour day as he bids to put Rendall Munroe on top of the boxing world and get himself elected to the Houses of Parliament.

The promoter stages a major fight card at Coventry Skydome on Friday April 23 when Leicester’s Munroe meets Mexican Victor Terrazas in a WBC super-bantamweight title eliminator.

If Munroe wins he is guaranteed a crack at Japanese WBC champion Toshiaki Nishioka later this year. Ambitious Maloney is chasing his own political dreams by standing as a candidate for UKIP at next month’s general election.

Maloney believes he can deliver a KO blow to Barking’s current MP Margaret Hodge and extreme right wing BNP leader Nick Griffin. And although he is a political underdog, Maloney believes the constituents will put an X next to his name when the nation goes to the polls on Thursday May 6.

Maloney explained: “It is non-stop with the big boxing card in Coventry and the election, but it will all be worth it. I dream of being elected and Rendall coming to the Houses of Parliament as my guest with a WBC world title belt wrapped around his waist.”

Maloney’s day starts at 5am and it is 11pm before he finally hits the pillow for a few hours sleeps. He explained: “I am working flat out for 15 hours from 5am in the morning.

“I get back home at 8pm and spend a couple of hours with the family, but even then I am making matches for promotions and discussing politics with my UKIP team.

“People might know me well enough in boxing, but politics is something close to my heart and I have been looking for a general election seat to contest ever since as I stood as a candidate in the London Mayoral Elections in 2004.

“I finished fourth then behind the three main parties, but the people of Barking have been neglected by the government for years and I believe I will be a voice for them when I am elected.”
