Frank Maloney Boxing: Munroe vs. Terrazas Show Will Go On Despite Volcano Flight Chaos

Frank Maloney has spent £25,000 to make sure Rendall Munroe’s WBC super-bantamweight title final eliminator against Victor Terrazas goes ahead.

The Mexican’s flight to Britain on Saturday was cancelled because of the volcanic ash crisis that led to a ban on flights. But Maloney has splashed the cash to make sure the fight takes place at Coventry Skydome on Friday (23rd April)

Maloney took a day off from campaigning as a UKIP parliamentary candidate in Barking on Sunday to save the show. He managed to get the last tickets on a flight from Mexico City to Madrid and Team Terrazas arrived in the Spanish capital shortly after noon today (Mon).

Terrazas is currently on a 17 hour journey to England involving two cars and will arrive in Coventry early tomorrow (Tues) morning. A limo is taking take Terrazas from Madrid to Paris, where an English driver will meet him and complete the marathon journey via the channel tunnel.

Maloney explained: “I have moved high and hell water to make sure the show goes on and nerves have been frayed. On Sunday morning I was very concerned, but managed to find a flight to Madrid where there were just a few seats left.

“The cost was top dollar, but that is a small price to pay. More than 2000 tickets have been sold and Sky Sports viewers will be looking forward to potentially the fight of the year.

“A Spanish driver will make sure Victor and his team get to Paris safely and then a company I use regularly will have a luxury town car to finish the journey. The good thing for Victor is that we got him into Europe a few days before the fight and that gives him a chance to acclimatise and shake off jet lag.”

On the same bill is Sunderland’s Olympic bronze medallist Tony Jeffries who faces Welshman Nathan King in a tough super-middleweight six rounder.

In an eagerly awaited rematch Leicester’s Martin Concepcion bids to do the double over Kevin Hammond in a Midlands Area light-middleweight title fight

Tickets are on sale, prices £30, £50 and £70 by logging onto www.frankmaloney.com or by calling 0871 226 1508. Boxers on the bill are also selling tickets.
