Germany's interim WBO super middleweight champion Mario Veit celebrated his forty-fifth win tonight with a ninth round knockout of former IBF super middleweight champion Charles 'The Hatchet' Brewer. Both Brewer and Veit are former victims of current reigning WBO champion Joe Calzaghe who recently struggled to defend his title against unheralded challenger Kabary Salem. Brewer went the full twelve rounds with Calzaghe, losing a unanimous decision while Veit could not escape the first round against Calzaghe before being stopped. With ten losses on his professional record, Brewer might look to retirement, while Calzaghe's plans to join the fray in the light heavyweight division should pave the way for Veit to claim the WBO title proper.
