Ring Stars Boxing: Demyaneko Retains Welterweight Titles In Moscow

Vitaliy Demyaneko notched up the 8th defense of his PABA Welterweight Title in Moscow on Sunday when he stopped late replacement Walter Gomez in the 2nd round. The fight was also a defense of Vitaliy’s WBA Asia Pacific Title.

Now undefeated in 19 fights, Demyaneko was originally slated to face WBO # 15 Sam Columban who couldn’t make the fight due to visa delays getting into Russia.

This fight will now take place either in the USA or Australia later in the year said Ring Stars spokesperson Anna Fedorova; “We have him now rated WBO 7 WBA 8 & 9 with the WBC and intend to fight at least two more times before the year is out.

“Our team matchmaker Stuart Duncan is confident he can put the Columban fight back on another date and if Zab Judah ever re-surfaces, I know this is who Vitaliy and his trainer want badly.

Vitaliy had this to say on his performance yesterday. “I was disappointed that my opponent changed during the week and we knew nothing about Walter Diaz other than he was a brave man who took the fight on a couple of days notice.

“My trainer instructed me to load up with my punches early in the fight as he was an unknown quantity and if I ever had reason to stop someone early – not knowing your opponents style is one of them,” he laughed. “I was preparing for a war against Sam Columban so hopefully this fight will come of later in the year”.

Ring Stars Matchmaker Stuart Duncan said he was presently in negotiations with a couple of promoters in the USA regarding another TV appearance for Vitaliy in August.

“We have Sam Columban ready & willing so that is 2 fights pre Christmas and if we can squeeze one more in we will. I am confident that by aligning Vitaliy with the right promoter that it will assist us in securing some big fights in 2011,” said Duncan.

“Zab Judah we will cancel any plans to accommodate ‘wherever / whenever’ while Luis Collazo – Alfonso Gomez and others are on the radar.

Another of Ring Stars boxers shone at Moscow as Khabib Allakhverdiev, now 13-0, secured the WBC Asian Boxing Council Title with a UD win over Karen Tevosyan, 15-1.
