Unbeaten Polish light heavyweight Tomasz Adamek won the vacant WBC championship tonight in one of the evening's featured attractions to the Brewster-Golota championship fight. The fight went to the scorecards after twelve rounds of action and Adamek took the victory after one card read 114-114 even, another read 117-113 and the last read 115-113 in his favor. Briggs suffered his second professional defeat. The championship was declared vacant after former champion Antonio Tarver refused to defend it, opting to fight Glen Johnson in December 2004.
