Boxing Result: Kratingdaenggym Loses WBA Title In Japan

In a stunning upset, Japanese fighter Ryol Li Lee unseated reigning WBA super bantamweight champion Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym tonight at Tokyo’s famed Korakuen Hall.

To say that 28 year old Lee was familiar with the venue would be a bit of an understatement as the Yokohama resident has never fought anywhere else while Kratingdaenggym was making just his second appearance in Japan.

Japanese feather titlist Lee came down to super banatm for the first time in his career for this and the challenger used his height and reach advantages to good effect throughout the contest.

Kratingdaenggym was the more aggressive fighter but the 29 year old Thai strongman was never able to figure out his rival’s awkward style and therefore could never get a sustained offense going.

Lee proved adept at countering the champion’s misses, racking up points and using good footwork to always stay a step ahead of Kratingdaenggym.

After 12 rounds, Lee swept the cards by scores of 118-110, 115-113 and 115-114, winning the WBA title and improving to 17-1-1 (8).

Kratingdaenggym loses for only the second time in his career, falling to 41-2 (29), as a 17 bout win streak goes up in smoke.

The undercard saw another Yokohama standout, Japanese super feather strapholder Takashi Miura, 20-1-2 (16), record his fourth title defense by belting out Tokyo’s Takashi Inagaki, 12-9-1 (5), in nine rounds.
