In a sensational move, former undisputed light welterweight champion Kostya Tszyu has fired his longtime trainer Johnny Lewis. Hot on the heels of Tszyu's dramatic loss to England's Ricky Hatton for the IBF title, Tszyu has wasted no time in dealing out the blame for the loss to Lewis who has trained the Russian born Australian fighter for thirteen years. Lewis's rationale for stopping the fight was that the prospect of winning seemed out of Tszyu's grasp and that he had taken too much punishment, while Tszyu, when asked to continue, did not make a serious attempt to gather himself for the final round. The Tszyu-Lewis relationship was always one of boxing's most enduring partnerships and it cannot be emphasized enough how shocking this latest revelation is.
Who will train Tszyu next if he continues fighting? SaddoBoxing will bring you all the news as it happens.
