Boxing In Argentina: Lazarte vs. Solis For IBF Title Tonight

Tonight at Club Unidos in Mar Del Plata, IBF light flyweight kingpin Luis Alberto Lazarte puts his crown at risk against former titleholder Ulises Solis of Mexico.

39 year old Lazarte, 48-9-1 (18), shocked the 108 pound division by unseating Carlos Tamara by split decision in May to capture the IBF trophy but retained the bauble via solid unanimous decision over Nerys Espinoza in September.

Solis, 32-2-2 (21), had the IBF belt for eight title defenses between 2006-2009 before getting KO’d by Brian Viloria. The 29 year old from Guadalajara has won four consecutive appearances since that time, including an IBF eliminator over
Bert Batawang in March.

Solis will have the youth, height and experience advantages against Lazarte but the champion will be fighting in front of a hometown crown at the same venue in which he won his last two bouts.

But will that local edge be enough for Lazarte to turn back the clock and overcome the challenge for former titlist Solis?

Lazarte will have to outwork the challenger and keep moving from the first round thru the twelfth if he is to accomplish a victory in the biggest bout of his long career.

The undercard sees a clash for the vacant IBF latino welter strap between Rodolfo Ezequiel Martinez, 38-4-1 (15), and Mariano Abel Robledo, 10-2-1 (5).

Martinez has won two straight since dropping an IBF title challenge to Jan Zaveck in April and is the definite favorite against Robledo.
