On the under-card of Showtime's heavyweight attraction between Mike Tyson and Kevin McBride, two significant fighters saw action. In a welterweight feature, Sharmba Mitchell returned to the ring, leaving his light welterweight days behind as he took on and defeated Chris "The Mechanic" Smith. The fight ended abruptly in the fifth round as Mitchell sustained a nasty cut due to an unintentional headbutt. The scorecards as tallied at that point presented the win to Mitchell, and with it, the NABA welterweight championship. Smith suffers his second professional loss. In other action, former flyweight world title challenger Hussein Hussein rebounded in style from his loss to WBC champion Jorge Arce by taking a ten round decision win over Evaristo Primero.
