Amateur Card Beats The Pros In Brighton Beach

By Robert Brizel July 22nd, 2011 All Ringside Boxing

Dmitry Salita's Star of David Promotions hosted a seven bout amateur and professional card at Oceana Hall in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn on Wednesday evening, July 20, 2011.

The first three amateur bouts on the card supervised by USA boxing were good matchups and very competitive. Unfortunately, the pro card lacked the same competitiveness and made for a lackluster event. Despite a capacity crowd, the card fell short.

Will Rosinsky's scheduled eight round main event opponent had apparently pulled out with an injury after the weigh-in. The bout was salvaged with last minute mismatched opponent Jose Ramirez of Albuquerque, New Mexico, now 11-12 (6).

Ramirez entered with an even 11-11 record, and had not been stopped in over five years. Against Rosinsky, jabs and power punches had Ramirez in trouble from the opening bell. His overinflated record could not help him, and Ramirez got knocked out for the count at 2:20 of the first round.

Rosinsky, now 14-0 (8), Ozone Park, New York, the 2005 United States Amateur Light Heavyweight champion, is worthy of better opposition. Although the effort to salvage the main event is appreciated, sometimes the show does not have to go on.

Main Event Result: Will Rosinsky KO1 Jose Ramirez, Light Heavyweights (2:20)
