Prospects Gomez, Granados Tangle On Next Solo Boxeo From Chicago

Chicago boxing fans are anxiously counting down the days to the return of boxing at the UIC Pavilion and with good reason, as Golden Boy Promotions and 8 Count Productions are bringing a sensational undercard to Chicago.

The main event pits undefeated former amateur standouts, Frankie Gomez, (10-0, 8 KO’s) of East Los Angeles and Chicago’s Adrian “El Tigre” Granados, (6-0-1, 4 KO’s) in an eight round junior welterweight battle.

In the televised co-main event, lightweight Omar “Panterita” Figueroa (13-0-1, 9 KO’s) will put his undefeated record on the line against the battle-tested Marcos Herrera (6-6-1, 2KO’s)) of Arvada, Colorado.

Fighting out of South Texas town of Weslaco, 21-year-old Figueroa will be making his second appearance at the UIC Pavilion. In his last bout in the Windy City, he stopped Anthony Woods in the second round on December 12, 2009 on the undercard of the Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz vs. Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi bout. Figueroa is coming off of a hard-fought eight round decision win over Eric Cruz on June 17 in Hidalgo, Texas.

The upset-minded Herrera will look to get back in the win column, having gone the distance with undefeated Irish top prospect Jamie Kavanagh on July 23 in Las Vegas, dropping a hotly contested six round decision.

Two rising stars in welterweight division will see action in separate bouts as Chicago’s Luis Santiago (2-1, 1 KO) faces Clifford “The Magician” McPherson (2-4-1, 1 KO) of Cleveland, Ohio in a four round battle and pro debuting Daniel Sotelo challengesHinckley, Minnesota’s Ronnie Fuentez (0-1).

Also appearing in separate bouts will be two undefeated prospects in hard-hitting, Emanuel Steward trained, junior middleweight Tony Harrison (3-0, 3 KO’s) of Detroit, Michigan and Chicago-based junior featherweight Juan Carlos Fernandez (1-0-1). Harrison and Fernandez are scheduled in separate four round fights against opponents to be determined.

Advance tickets are priced at just $36 (Floor Level) and $31 (General Admission), and are now on sale through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com), the UIC Pavilion Boxing Office (312-413-5740) and the 8 Count Productions Office (312-226-5800).

The UIC Pavilion is located at 525 S. Racine, just one block south of the Eisenhower Expressway. For further information, please visit their website at www.uicpavilion.com. The UIC Pavilion is now serving alcohol at all boxing events.
