Burgeoning heavyweight contender Yanqui Diaz squeezed his way past former contender Vaughn Bean on Friday night via a split decision win. The fight did not increase Diaz's stock in the boxing world but Bean's is a solid enough name to add to the record of an up and coming fighter who has had a busy year, incredibly fighting almost half of his total fights this year alone. As a product of the Cuban amateur program it is obvious that Diaz can box even though he did not show it against Bean. The heavyweight division is in need of someone, anyone to take the reigns and stir some excitement, whether Diaz is that man or not remains to be seen but it will be very interesting to see how Top Rank match their latest heavyweight prospect next.
