WBO light welterweight champion of the world Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico will make his next defense of the title against Italian contender Gianluca Branco. The news comes after Cotto's impressive and systematic dismantling of former amateur opponent Mohamad Abdulaev last month. Branco has only one loss against thirty-six wins and a draw, and that loss came in a losing bid for the vacant WBC light welterweight championship to eventual champion Arturo Gatti. The bout will happen on September 24 and will be held at Madison Square Garden, marking Cotto's second successive appearance at the arena.
