Malignaggi, Powell and Salita on Broadway Boxing.

By Boxing Press July 28th, 2005 All Press Releases

DiBella Entertainment will present a New York City boxing extravaganza at the Broadway Boxing Summer Bash on Thursday night, August 25th, at the Hammerstein Ballroom on 34th Street and Eighth Avenue, featuring undefeated stalwarts Dmitriy "Star of David" Salita, Sechew "Iron Horse" Powell and Paulie "The Magic Man" Malignaggi, as well as Latin up-and-comer Edgar Santana, all on the same action-packed card, it was announced today at Gallagher's Steak House by DBE president Lou DiBella.

The doors open at 6:00 PM, and the first fight is at 7:00 PM. Tickets are priced at $200, $150, $100, $60 and $40 with a limited number of VIP balcony box tickets also available. Call DiBella Entertainment at 212-947-2577 to order.

The pugilistic quartet has a combined record of 71 victories, including 37 wins by way of knockout, and each tries to elevate his status in the boxing world on the unique boxing doubleheader - two Broadway Boxing television shows will be taped that evening to air on Madison Square Garden Network, Fox Sports Net New England and Comcast SportsNet Chicago and HDNet at a later date. Salita, Powell, Malignaggi and Santana hope to take the next step toward professional title aspirations on August 25th when they all compete on the biggest Broadway Boxing card yet.

Salita has enjoyed the home cooking since he began to fight on the New York turf under the DBE flag last summer. "Star of David" has reeled off four in a row under the Big Apple spotlight to up his record to 22-0, with 13 of those triumphs coming by way of knockout. Born in the Ukraine, Salita now fights out of boxing's Brooklyn hot bed and squares off against Shawn Gallegos (15-1, 5 KO's) of Las Vegas for the NABA Junior Welterweight Championship in a 10-rounder.

Brooklyn-born junior middleweight Powell (16-0, 10 KO's) is back on the heels of the most impressive performance of his professional career before a national television audience on Showtime. Following a double knockout virtually at the sound of the bell in the opening round, the southpaw "Iron Horse" got back on his feet, gained his composure and walloped Cornelius Bundrage at :22 of the opening stanza on May 6 at Foxwoods. It was an awesome performance that has Powell on the threshold of stardom. He will face Grady Brewer (18-11, 12 K0's) in a re-match of their hotly-contested affair on Shobox.

Malignaggi (19-0, 5 KO's) returns to the ring after a long absence following hand surgery last year. The charismatic Bensonhurst brawler captured the WBC International light welterweight championship over Sandro Casamonica on December 4, 2004 in Little Rock on a Jermain Taylor under card. But Magic Man injured his hand in the process, forcing him to the sidelines for almost nine months. He will be back in the ring against the tough Jeremy Yelton (17-1, 9 KO's) in an eight round junior welterweight bout.

Santana (14-2, 9 KO's) has rattled off nine straight, including five in a row in the friendly confines of the Manhattan Center to become a bona fide fan favorite amongst the crowds on 34th and Eighth Avenue. The welterweight was born in Puerto Rico, now fighting out of Spanish Harlem, has improved with every outing since two early career setbacks.

Broadway Boxing is sponsored by HBO Sports, Locatestock.com and Gallagher's Steak House.
