Audley Injured, Comeback Fight Postponed To May 26

By Boxing Press March 7th, 2012 All Press Releases

Olympic Gold Medalist Audley Harrsion has been forced to postpone his comeback bout with Ali Adams, scheduled for April 14 at the Brentwood Centre, Essex. It will now take place 6 weeks later on 26th May at the same venue.

Audley had begun sparring last week Monday and during a heated sparring session, damaged his right elbow. He sought treatment and resumed sparring on Friday, but the injury became worse...Eric S. Honbo, PT, DPT, OCS of Advanced Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine in Thousand Oaks, California, treated Audley and said the following;

'Audley came to me Monday evening with severe pain in his right elbow, which I tried to settle down with Ice and a electrical steam machine. On Friday after treatment, I advised Audley to see Dr Luga Podesta, who sent him for an MRI scan, which confirmed a bone contusion deep near Audley's right elbow'.

Dr Luga and I have told Audley he cannot use his arm to punch for the next four weeks. He's been put on a course of anti-inflammatory medication, that should settle the injury down, but must completely rest the arm'.

Audley said 'I'm so frustrated to pick up this injury just when I started to step up my training with sparring. Even though I'm 40 years young, and ring rust is not easy to shake off, I felt good in sparring.

"I'm calling back my sparring partner as soon as I come back to resume hostilities, as I was enjoying the tough work. I'll keep in shape and as soon as I can start punching again, I'm off ...I already know Ali Adams has talked himself into a lot of trouble come May 26th. I will be there on 26th May!!!

Ali Adams retored “All Audley is doing is putting of the inevitable. He now gets 6 weeks longer to call himself a professional boxer before I retire him once and for all on 26th May.”

Promoter Steve Goodwin said “It is the correct decision to postpone the bout for 6 weeks rather than continue with the card with Ali just having a warm up. The boxing public have come forward in their droves to support this fantastic card and they must get what they paid for”. It is disappointing but it will be an amazing night for all.
