Vargas and Juarez Busy Ahead of August 20 Showdowns.

On August 20 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL fight fans will be treated to a doubleheader of 12 round bouts. In the main event two-time jr. middleweight world champion Fernando Vargas (26-2, 23 KO’s) returns to the 154 lb. division when he battles two-time world champion Javier Castillejo (58-5, 39 KO’s). In the co-feature undefeated WBC/IBF #1 ranked featherweight contender Rocky Juarez (23-0, 16 KO’s) challenges WBC f#2 ranked contender Humberto Soto (36-5-2, 21 KO’s) for the WBC-Interim Featherweight Championship. (Juarez was originally scheduled to battle WBC champion In Jin Chi; however, Chi was forced to pull out of the bout after spraining his right ankle while jogging on July 28.) Both bouts will be broadcast live on HBO’s “Boxing After Dark” series, beginning at 10:15 P.M. ET and 9:15 pm. CT. To promote their bouts both Vargas and Juarez will be making appearances at several Chicago sporting events the next two weeks:

On Friday, August 12 two-time jr. middleweight world champion Fernando Vargas will throw out the first pitch at the Chicago Cubs-St. Louis Cardinals game at Wrigley Field in Chicago, IL. The game is scheduled for a 1:20 pm CT start . . .

On Saturday, August 13, Vargas will visit Soldier Field to be honored at mid-field prior to the MLS game between the Chicago Fire and the Los Angeles Galaxy. Vargas will address the crowd and receive a personalized jersey from the Chicago Fire. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 pm CT

On Wednesday, August 17, undefeated WBC #1 ranked contender Rocky Juarez will visit U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, IL to throw out the first pitch at the Chicago White Sox-Minnesota Twins game. The game is scheduled to start at 7:05 pm CT.
