Call this a “hair raising” experience! Simply stated, rival boxing promoters Don King and Lou DiBella have “wigged out.” DiBella, who is also the managing partner of the ownership group of the Norwich Navigators minor league baseball team, has invited the legendary King to appear as guest of honor at a celebration of America at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, Connecticut, and King has gladly accepted.
And so, Thursday night, August 18, has been declared “Only in America Night” at Dodd Stadium, and the first 1,000 fans will receive an authentic Don King wig courtesy of the Navigators. King, of course, is known for his flamboyant hair-style and belief in the American dream. The bombastic King will meet and greet fans, and sign autographs, prior to the Navigators 7:05 PM/ET game against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. King will test his arm when he appropriately throws out the first pitch of the ballgame. In addition, a random drawing will be held with the winner being named “King for a Day,” and an opportunity to attend one of King’s upcoming major boxing events.
With many American flags, a color guard and military presence, the pugilistic promoters will team to celebrate America, a promotion that will have the late, legendary baseball promoter Bill Veeck smiling down on them from the heavens.
“Don King is an American original, a legend in the world of boxing, and a proud American,” said DiBella. “The Norwich Navigators are thrilled to host Only in America Night’ at Dodd Stadium.”
The Norwich Navigators are the Double-A Affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, and a member of the Eastern League of Professional Baseball.
