Gary Shaw Signs Peruvian Lightweight Prospect Maicelo

By Boxing Press August 7th, 2012 All Press Releases

Gary Shaw Productions is elated to publicize the signing of undefeated lightweight standout, Jonathan "The Predator" Maicelo (17-0, 10 KOs) of Callao, Peru. Having captured the WBC Latino and WBA Fedecentro lightweight titles, Maicelo is the first Peruvian boxer to ever enter the World Rankings.

"Maicelo is a huge star in his native land of Peru," said Gary Shaw. "His tantalizing fighting style is what brings large crowds, amassing 15,000 people to come see him fight. He had an outstanding amateur career where he medaled in many international tournaments. He's a tremendous fighter with a ton of charisma."

"In his last fight at the Chumash Casino last month, he destroyed the always rugged Daniel Attah in three rounds. We want to showcase his talents here in the United States and he'll make a quick return to the ring this Friday at the Morongo Casino on the undercard of Darley Perez vs. Bahodir Mamadjonov which will air on ESPN2 "Friday Night Fights."

"I came to the United States with the goal of becoming a world champion," said Jonathan Maicelo, Peru's national hero. "I'm totally focused on what I need to do to accomplish that goal and I'm hungry to show the fans of America what I'm capable of. I'm taking on all comers with no hesitation. Gary Shaw is a great man and I'm happy to be part of his team. I want to make him proud."

Said Manager Nelson Fernandez, "We signed with Gary Shaw, who is a good friend of mine for many years, because we know he can bring a lot of exposure to Jonathan.

"We just want to prove our worth and work our way up the rankings and get in position to fight for a world title. Maicelo is happy with the way his career is going and we will be ready to go this Friday at the Morongo."
