Still there are no reported fights set for either WBA heavyweight champion John ruiz or IBF titlist Chris Byrd. Ruiz has not fought since his April beating by James toney, a fight that was eventually declared a no contest due to Toney's steroid test turning up positive. Ruiz was declared a three time WBA heavyweight champion but has made no moves in regard to fighting again since. Byrd has not fought since his close split decision win over Jameel McCline in November of 2004. Byrd should fight IBF mandated challenger DaVarryl Williamson now that Wladimir Klitschko has opted to fight Nigerian Samuel Peter, but there is still no ifficial word on a future title defense for Byrd. With the heavyweight championship scene stagnating even further, hopefully these champions will get back in the game to defend their titles or move on for new champions to take up the torch.
