Middleweight Murray Looking For Top Class Opponent

By Boxing Press October 25th, 2012 All Press Releases

Martin Murray has got the world’s best middleweights running for cover.

The unbeaten St Helens star boxes on Hatton Promotions card at Manchester Arena, on Saturday November 24th, topped by Ricky Hatton’s comeback bout against Vyacheslav Senchenko.

Murray (24-0-1) hopes to challenge for the vacant WBA interim title on the big bill, but is still waiting to discover his opponent despite offers being made to several big names.

Murray, 30, said: “We are trying to get the big fights made but it just hasn’t been happening. I suppose right now I am high risk, low reward for a lot of the champions and big name challengers.

“Matthew Macklin, Craig McEwan and Andy Lee have all knocked back the chance to face me, but I just have to keep plodding on.

“If I had a world title I would get fights no problem, but without a belt my rivals see me as a danger and have nothing to gain.

“I don’t get disappointed because I am still enjoying my training, that is going well and I remain confident that there will be big fights in the near future.”

Although Hatton’s first fight in three-and-a-half years has grabbed global attention, the sell-out crowd will see a top class undercard.

There is world title action when Scott Quigg (24-0-1) meets Rendall Munroe (24-2-1) in a vacant interim WBA Super-Bantamweight Title return match. Their Summer showdown ended in a technical draw after three rounds because of Munroe’s cut right eye.

Sergey Rabchenko (21-0) defends his European Light-middleweight crown against Frenchman Cedric Vitu (35-1) and Gary Buckland (26-2) risks his British Super-featherweight title against local idol Stephen Foster Jnr (30-3-1).

Also in action are Hatton Promotions hopefuls James Dickens (12-0), Adam Etches (9-0) and Scott Jenkins (6-0).
