There were two important matches tonight in boxing mad Thailand, with both contests taking place in the capital city of Bangkok. In the primary bout, a battle royale between unbeaten fighters took place at the Rachadamnern Stadium with native Thai Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym banging out a split decision over Panamanian southpaw Ricardo "Maestrito" Cordoba. Kratingdaenggym, 23-0 (15), is now the Interim WBA titlist on the strength of his stern and unrelenting body assualt that slowed the quicker Cordoba, who loses for the first time and falls to 25-1 (17). The Thai fighter has now earned himself a showdown with full WBA Champion Wladimir Sidorenko, who must get past challenger Manabu Fukushima in Japan this October.
In other Bangkok action, sensational novice professional Petchtapee Pinsinchai retained his WBC Asian Boxing Council light flyweight trinket and continued his improbable cinderella story. Fifty-two bout veteran Jun Arlos of the Phillipines is the latest seasoned pro to come up short against the 4-0 (2) Pinsinchai, losing a competitive twelve-round struggle to the twenty-one-year-old Bangkok man.
