Prospect Douglas Faces Medina At Turning Stone Casino

This Friday night from the Turning Point Resort & Casino in Verona, NY, as part of ESPN’s acclaimed series Friday Night Fights, middleweight prospect Antoine Douglas will look to continue his early dominance inside the ring and earn his fourth consecutive victory to begin his young career as he goes to battle against Emmanuel Medina (2-2-1, 2 KO).

Douglas (3-0, 3 KO) made his pro debut last October, and through his first three fights he hasn’t allowed an opponent to go this distance; twice stopping them in the first round.

As an amateur Douglas fought regularly, having over 120 bouts, and was a National PAL Champion, 2009 Jr. Olympic Champion and a Ringside World Champion.

Training with his uncle K, who is both his trainer and adviser, in Virginia, the up-and-coming middleweight is excited to get back between the ropes and go to work. Douglas is managed by William Mielnicki, and has recently signed with GH3 Promotions and Vito Mielnicki—partner of Greg Cohen CGP Promotions.

Friday night he is a swing fight on Friday Night Fights, meaning he may have a chance to make his television debut and really show the boxing world what he brings to the table.

“When I go out there, I want to use my jab to set the pace of the fight and to set up my right,” said Douglas. “Medina is a southpaw, so we can use our straight right to beat them, and I will look to use my footwork to set it up.”

Despite only fighting six rounds in his first three fights, Douglas has displayed slickness and maturity, which is attributed to his extensive career as an amateur. And the 20-year-old knows that he can end the fight at any time with his heavy hands.

“I go out looking for the knockout every time I step into the ring,” said Douglas. “This Friday night I don’t expect the fight going past the second round.”

In addition to his boxing skills and power, Douglas feels one of his greatest strengths inside the ring is his will, and his ability to out will his opponents.

“Going forward in 2013, I want to stay active and fight consistently,” said Douglas, who will be making his fourth ring appearance in three months. He is also scheduled to fight February 2013, so his experience will continue to grow each time he laces up the leather.

The action begins this Friday night on ESPN at 9 p.m. live from the Turning Point Resort & Casino in Verona, NY.
