Reports out of England depict an IBF/WBA light welterweight showdown between Ricky Hatton and newly crowned WBA champion Carlos Maussa. The Colombian Maussa shocked the boxing world this past June as he knocked out Vivian Harris in eight rounds to become a surprise champion. Meanwhile, Ricky Hatton, who has been ever-present since his historic destruction of former undisputed champion Kostya Tszyu is apparently set to sign a deal with rival UK promoter Dennis Hobson who seems set to stage the unification bout later this year. If the bout is to go ahead, it will likely happen in Sheffield, England. Miguel Cotto will defend his WBO light welterweight title this month on the under-card of the Klitschko-Peter heavyweight fight. WBC titlist Floyd Mayweather does not have a bout scheduled for the end of this year thus far.
Stay tuned for more details.
