Friday Night Boxing: Scott Dann Leads the Way by Beating Elcock

By Curtis McCormick September 17th, 2005 All Boxing Results

It was an interesting night at the fights across the globe, with some great action taking place. Scott Dann retained his British Middleweight title in Plymouth, England in the first domestic championship bout to feature three judges instead of the previous system where only the referee scored the contest. Dann wasn't able to apply his vaunted power and stop Elcock but won the contest by decisive margins on the cards. On the undercard english Flyweight titlist Lee Haskins stopped Delroy Spencer in the second during a non-title rematch.

Cagey veteran Kabary Salem becomes the latest victim to fall under the fists of Montreal knockout artist Lucien Bute, the Romanian export who has stopped all 14 of his opponents to date. Salem had only previously lost to quality operators Joe Calzaghe, Eric Harding, Antwun Echols and Mario Veit but the "Egyptian Magician" had always finished on his feet until now.

In Blacktown, Australia, Daniel Geale picked up the vacant IBF Pan Pacific Light Middleweight title when opponent Steve Douet could not continue in the second due to injuries. On the same bill, Billy Dib retained his IBO Asia Pacific Super Feather belt when adversary Jesar Ancajas was disqualified.

In Johannesburg, South Africa, Simon Ramoni had to climb off the canvas twice before knocking Khulile Makeba cold in the fifth to keep possession of his South African Super Flyweight crown.

Gilroy, California's favorite son Robert Guerrero retained his NABF Featherweight trophy by
knocking out china chinned achiever Sammy Ventura in the first round of their contest in Lemoore, California. Heavyweight hopeful Sultan Ibragimov continued his march towards a title shot with a ninth round technical decision over Friday Ahunanya in Duluth, Georgia.
