The MGM Grand in Las Vegas was the scene of the weigh-ins for Saturday night's HBO PPV fights. Shane Mosley was beaming from the start and looks like he’s finally settling back down to his ideal weight class of 147lbs. If we get some fast combination punching from the Shane of old, then the
undefeated but untested and slow punching Jose Luis Cruz will be hard pressed to last the duration.
Leavander Johnson vs. Jesus Chavez is a very intriguing matchup at 135lbs for the IBF title. This will be Chavez’s first fight at lightweight, after starting his career at feather, and fighting most of his battles at super feather. Leavander appears to be coming in with a good height and size advantage, and with the fantastic shape he came in at, Johnson's giving himself the best possible shot against the relentless punching Chavez. In a 12 round tilt, at age 35, can Johnson box effectively, employ a long jab, and keep Chavez off of him or possibly stop the iron-chinned warrior? We’ll find out tomorrow night!
