By Boxing Press September 27th, 2005 All Press Releases

MARQUEZ AILING, TITLE DEFENSE AGAINST MABUZA POSTPONED UNTIL NOVEMBER 5 ON SHOWTIME

NEW YORK (Sept. 26, 2005) – The International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight title fight between champion Rafael Marquez and IBF No. 1 contender Silence Mabuza, originally scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 1, was postponed Monday when promoter Gary Shaw informed Showtime that Marquez was suffering from the flu.

This bantamweight world title fight has been rescheduled for SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING’s Nov. 5 event at Caesars Tahoe, which will be headlined by Jeff Lacy defending his IBF/IBO super middleweight titles against Scott Pemberton.

Saturday’s heavyweight fights on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING remain intact. James “Lights Out’’ Toney (68-4-2, 43 KOs) will make his eagerly awaited return to the ring when he defends his International Boxing Association (IBA) crown against Dominick “The Southern Disaster’’ Guinn (25-2-1, 18 KOs). In the co-feature, IBF heavyweight champion Chris Byrd (38-2-1, 20 KOs) will defend against mandatory challenger DaVarryl Williamson (22-3, 18 KOs).

Saturday’s SHOWTIME doubleheader begins at 9:15 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast).
