INTERNATIONAL BOXING COMPETITION - THE ROAD TO BEIJING 2008
Fans who enjoyed the return of the San Francisco Golden Gloves to the city's downtown last spring will get a chance to watch amateur boxing at a higher level, and this time with American pride on the line.
On Sunday, October 30th, 2005 the city of San Francisco will host the single most important amateur boxing event of the year -- Mexico vs. USA. Not since the early 1970's has the Mexican national team competed in California in a head-to-head competition against Team USA. Passions for country will run deep as these two natural rivals face off in this Pre-Olympic dual meet
The U.S. national boxing team and its Mexican counterpart will face each other in a one-day tournament Oct. 30 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, California.
This historic sports event will create enormous interest throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area and state itself with its huge Hispanic population. The road to Beijing 2008 goes through San Francisco, and national pride will run deep fueling awareness while creating strong demand. The event will feature bouts in 11 Olympic weight categories.
