Boxing Round by Round: Candelario Herrera - Rock Allen

By Adam Matson October 14th, 2005 All Boxing Results, Round by Round

Philadelphia's Rock Allen turned pro earlier this year after a highly decorated time as an amateur and has been banging out the usual limited early career opposition with little problems. Last night at the Borgata in Atlantic City, the twenty four year old faced Mexico's Candelario "Tigrillo" Herrera on a Golden Boy Promotions card aired on HBO Latino.

Round one: The round starts with Allen meeting Herrera on his side of the ring and popping his jab in the opponent's face. Allen has a very fast jab and Herrera doesn't have the fastest reaction time, that is evident from the very early going. The entire first minute consist of Allen popping his jab out and Herrera doing nothing to counter, he has eaten at least ten jabs in the first minute alone. At the minute thirty mark, Allen lands with a big overhand right, Herrera tries to combat it by swinging wide with a left hook and Allen lands a jab and a straight right inside of Herrera's wide hook. Hererra looks stiff, and isn't as composed as Allen is. Allen dominated the round with his jab and countering inside of Herrera's wide hooks.

Round: Allen 10-9 Fight: Allen 10-9

Round two: The round starts with both fighters coming to the middle of the ring and jabbing. Herrera throws a left hook early and Allen ducks it and counters with a left hook to Allen's face. Allen is letting his hooks fly this round, and is throwing the lead left hook to the body more this round as opposed to the jab in the first round. Allen is throwing his left hooks to get inside and once there is throwing his right uppercut. At the minute thirty mark, Allen lands a jab and follows it with a right straight and a left uppercut, very nice three punch combo. Allen gets Herrera on the ropes and starts throwing his hooks again, and that prompts Herrera's corner to throw in the towel.

Rock Allen wins by second round stoppage to move to 3-0 (3) while Candelario Herrera falls to
1-2-1 (1)
