Welterweight hopefuls Joshua Clottey and Chris “The Mechanic” Smith took care of business tonight in the latest chapter of DiBella Entertainment’s Broadway Boxing series. The bouts headlined the Manhattan based promoter’s fight card from the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York, much to the delight of those in attendance. Ghana native Clottey’s aggressive, come forward style snared him the decision over iron chinned Detroit journeyman Marlon Thomas. With the victory, Clottey adds to his already impressive 27-1 (18) mark.
New Yorker Chris Smith cruised to a comfortable win over five rounds when opponent Tomas Barrientes of Texas was unable to continue during the fifth as a result of a broken hand. The thirty year old Smith, 20-2-1 (13), regains the NABA Welter title he lost to Sharmba Mitchell in June of this year.
