Power Retains British Bantamweight Boxing Crown In Maloney Promotions Thriller

By Curtis McCormick November 5th, 2005 All Boxing Results

It took every ounce of heart, determination and sheer guts for Martin Power to retain his British title tonight in London's hallowed East End venue of York Hall. The Camden Towne bantamweight had his hands absolutely full with the razor sharp reflexive boxing skills of challenger Ian Napa, a man nearly impossible to catch flush with a punch. Napa fought the early rounds out character, coming forward and pressuring the taller Power, who had been expecting the native Zimbabwean's customary stick and move strategy.

The middle rounds ushered in a back and forth campaign between the two contestants but it was in the ninth that Napa had his rival skating on thin ice but Power refused to go down and survived the quick handed Hackney man's best efforts to finish him.

Power recovered and began to find range on his adversary, culminating in a tremendous battle for the twelvfth and final round. When the smoke had cleared, the arm of Martin Power was raised on the strength of a slit decision victory.

Also on the Maloney Promotions bill, English Lightweight titlist Danny Hunt outpointed journeyman Jon Honney over eight in a non-title affair, Manchester sensation Craig Watson was able to see off Sergii Terteii over six at light welter and light middle Gary Woolcombe kept his record pristine with a four round drubbing of Mark Phillips.
