Nathan Briggs recently moved in just around the block from the Broncos Leagues Club in Red Hill, Brisbane where on Friday November 11 he made his return to the boxing ring after a 13 month lay off. He looked an imposing figure decked out in white trunks and boots and that's exactly how the fight went. Briggs imposed his strengthm and ultimately his knock out powerm with a second round stoppage of Kiwi Sio Vitale. |
Directly after the fight he told "In the Red Corner - Briz 31" that this was part of a four month schedule which should net him the Australian Heavyweight Title. " I am at about 85% tonight but come December 2 everyone will see Nathan Briggs version 100%"
Briggs mentioned the path to the top that he wishes to take and the Commonwealth Heavyweight Title is well and truly in his sights. At 193 cm and 110 kilos Briggs looks to be the ultimate heavyweight package.
In the feature bout of the evening, Queenslander Matt Powell took a tough split decision over Robert Oyan from Sydney. Oyan had recently went the distance with Jackson Asiku and was upset with the result, claiming a home town decision. Most at ringside had Powell winning.
Other results saw Michael Pechey win on points over Alex Mene in the heavyweight division.
Chris McCullen won on points over Micah Rivetti at junior welterweight, Steve Heremaia blasted Jay Washington out in the first round of their welterweight bout and David Slowiak beat Kev O'Neill in the opening bout over four rounds at welterweight.
This show was promoted by Red Corner Promotions and Ace Boxing Promotions. Don't miss their next promotion featuring Colin Wilson V Nathan Briggs for the Australian Heavyweight Title on December 2 at Mansfield Tavern in Brisbane.
