Sölden, Austria – Undefeated Ukrainian heavyweight Vladimir Virchis beat former British heavyweight champion Michael Sprott by twelve round unanimous decision Tuesday evening at Freizeit Arena of Sölden, Austria, in an entertaining main event of the last Spotlight Boxing show in 2005.
The official judges scored the contest 115:113 twice and 116:113, all in favor of Virchis who retained his WBO intercontinental title.
Sprott had his best moment at the end of round five when he pinned Virchis into the neutral corner and unloaded four shots to the head of the Ukrainian who was momentarily hurt and smothered the action with a clinch. The Englishman won the first three rounds by using a quick jab but he only fought in spurts and lost many close rounds in the second part of the fight where the powerful Virchis was working more consistant and hammered with both hands to Sprott’s body and head.
Virchis improved his record to 20-0 with 17 knockouts whereas Sprott dropped to 27-9 with 14 knockouts.
