Federation/World Boxing Association (WBC/IBF/WBA) titles on the line against WBC 147-pound mandatory challenger and No. 1 contender, Carlos Baldomir. In the co-feature, two reigning cruiserweight champions will collide when WBC/WBA champion Jean-Marc Mormeck faces his IBF counterpart, O’Neil “Supernova’’ Bell, for the undisputed cruiserweight title. The winner of Mormeck-Bell will become the division’s first undisputed champion since Evander Holyfield defeated Carlos DeLeon in 1988 on SHOWTIME, and just the second since the division was created in 1980.
ZAB JUDAH (34-2, 1 NC, 25 KOs)
I am excited to be fighting at Madison Square Garden (M.S.G.). I am going to show my fans that I am starting the New Year off right.”
“When Baldomir sees the caged lion across from him, he will know he met his match.”
Regarding comment about Baldomir being pumped for this fight:
“Like a basketball, it is fully pumped up, but when a Rottweiler bites it, it pops.”
CARLOS BALDOMIR (41-9-6, 12 KOs)
“It is an honor for me to be fighting in M.S.G. I am very calm, ready and there will be a big surprise for those fans who have not seen me.”
“I am happy Judah is confident, but after two or three rounds, I will rip his head off. He is in for a surprise.”
“Judah is not great at 147 pounds. He has only beat Cory Spinks. I am happy Judah is the best pound for pound fighter.
When I beat him, it will add more to my success.”
JEAN MARC-MORMECK (31-2, 21 KOs)
“I have much respect for Bell, but I will beat him.”
“It has always been a dream of mine to fight at M.S.G., New York and fight for the unification title.
O’NEIL BELL (25-1-1, 23 KOs)
“I will prove the unbelievers wrong. I can walk the walk and talk the talk. I will be the undisputed champion.”
“Mormeck may be the bull, but I am the matador. I will demolish him.”
