Harlow hitter Steve Murray reckons a tampon will help him batter Willie Limond on February 18 at Edinburgh's Meadowbank Stadium. Murray challenges Glaswegian Limond for the Vacant WBU World Lightweight crown but has been plagued with hand injuries in recent fights due to his heavy-handed attacking style.

He was worried that injuries would resurface in training but his problem is now cured thanks to using tampons! Before he commences training, Murray cuts a tampon in half and spreads it over his knuckles to form a perfect and supportive mould before applying hand-wraps and then the gloves.

His endeavours have worked and now Murray, who has had 28 fights with 24 wins and 16 by KO, is punching harder than ever and is confident of blasting out the Scotsman.

"I told an experienced boxing trainer, saying no names, about the problems I was having with my hands and he said he had just the remedy - a tampon," Said Murray.

"Of course, like anyone else, I thought he was having a wind up with me and told him to Eff off!"

"He convinced me to give it a go, I did, and since then I haven't looked back - I wish I had know about it earlier,"

"Tampons are an essential part of my boxing gear now like gloves, boots and hand-wraps, so much so that before I go to the gym, I pop into the chemist and get a pack,"

"I've taken a bit of stick from the lads but they seem to have copied me and are all doing it now!"

"I've had no problems and feel like I'm punching as hard as when I first started my career - if not harder."

Following losses to Graham Earl and Bobby Vanzie for the British title, Murray realises that this is his last crack at the big time and knows that victory is vital for him to continue in his career.

He added, "Limond is a fantastic boxer but how will he cope when I put him under a sustained attack?"

"I can punch to the head and body with equal power and I don't think he will stand up to it,"

"I'm expecting and training for a long fight but I know my power will come through in the end."

"I respect Limond but this fight is crucial to me and I want it more."
