Boxing Info: Lenny Daws Vs Colin Lynes

By Boxing Press January 19th, 2006 All Press Releases

The “Morden Massive’ will be in full effect on Friday night after moving into action to support Hennessy Sports promoted Lenny Daws in his final eliminator for the British Light Welterweight Title against Colin Lynes.

"There could be people hanging off the rafters at the York Hall," said the unbeaten Daws yesterday. "The people of Morden always get behind me, but their reaction to this fight has been on a different level.

"I think it has something to do with the fact that a good few people saw me beat Oscar Hall on SKY last time out, (in a final eliminator for the English title), but mostly because if I win this I am in line for a shot at the British."

The 27-year-old’s level of local support was in evidence when SKY visited his hometown to film a preview feature last week.

"I think the idea was just to get a flavour of some of my supporters and Morden in general, but things went a bit mad," Daws added. "There was a massive turnout, particularly when I started shadow boxing outside the tube station. I think we created a bit of a fire hazard."

Whilst he acknowledges the difficult task he faces given the credentials of Lynes – who last time out surprised many by extending British, Commonwealth and European champion Junior Witter to a 117-112, 116-112, 115-114 decision - Daws plans to repay the backing he has received with an impressive performance.

"Like I have said before, I know I am going to have my work cut out. It’s going to be a gruelling fight and he is going to fancy it, but I am more than up for this," Daw’s added. "I think I might even force a stoppage late on. That will give the Massive something to shout about."

Lightning’s confidence is bolstered by the success of his preparation.

"Things have gone fantastically in the gym," Daws added. "My trainer Robert McCracken has taught me so much since I turned professional and it feels as if everything is starting to come together now.

"I have never been in better shape physically. We worked hard all over Christmas so the benefits should be there for everyone to see. I think I might surprise a few people with my performance."
