Mercurial lightweight and super-journeyman Emanuel Augustus got back on track Friday night at Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Connecticut by stopping Colombian banger Jaime Rangel in the tenth and final frame of what had been a very close bout. It was the big punching of the Colombian that made the contest close but the cagey veteran Augustus, now 32-26-6 (17), found a way to deck Rangel, who loses his fifth straight to fall to 30-9-1 (26), twice in the tenth, forcing a stoppage.
Flashy Brooklyn light welter Paulie Malignaggi continued on the victory trail, peppering opponent Donald Camarena over the course of ten rounds to take a wide points decision. Malignaggi used good footwork and quick, crisp combinations to win nearly every round and remains undefeated at 21-0 (5). Camarena, of Denver, CO, drops to 16-2 (9) and sees an eight fight win streak snapped.
