Boxing Info: Night of the Irish

By Boxing Press February 28th, 2006 All Press Releases

Northeast Promotions in association with Cappiello Promotions presents “Night of The Irish” live from the Roxy Nightclub, St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2006. The main event pits former British Commonwealth Welterweight Champion Neil Sinclair, 28 – 4 24 by KO, Belfast, Ireland taking on former IBF JR. Welterweight Champion “Cool” Vince Phillips, 48 – 9 – 1 34 by KO, Las Vegas, NV in a 10 round Welterweight matchup televised live on ESPN 2 “Friday Night Fights”.

Sinclair will be making his American television debut when he takes on Phillips. Sinclair is a power punching, crowd pleasing, two time British Commonwealth Champion and was awarded the prestigious Lonsdale Belt. Sinclair challenged Daniel Santos for the WBO title on December 16, 2000 and unfortunately fell short in a memorable shootout which saw both fighters hit the deck.

Phillips, the ageless wonder, is coming off a spectacular win over previously unbeaten Kelson Pinto on October 13, 2005. Phillips captured the IBF Jr. Welterweight Title in his second attempt knocking off Kostya Tszyu, May 31, 1997. He then went on to defend his title 3 times including a win over Mickey Ward at the same Roxy Nightclub where he will be fighting Sinclair. Phillips has won 4 out of his last 5 bouts and shows no signs of slowing down.

The undercard features many local Irish attractions, including “Fighting Irish” Eddie Bishop (9 – 1 – 1 3 KO’s) Quincy, MA boxing in the 8 round Co-feature bout. Others on the card include Joe McCreedy (3 – 0 3KO’s) Lowell, MA, Gerry Grealish (3 – 0 2KO’s) Quincy, MA, Tim Flamos (17 – 2 – 1 7KO’s) Brockton, MA and Derek Fraza (1 – 0 1KO) Haverhill, MA brother of “Contender” star Jeff Fraza.

Tickets are on sale now at the Roxy Nightclub and through Cappiello Promotions. Prices are $100, $75, $40.
