After six years of working together Frank Maloney and Danny Hunt have parted company.
Frank Maloney has found it increasing impossible to work with Danny Hunt and his father, who seems to be getting more and more involved with his son's career. Over the past year Hunt has declined more fights than he's wanted to accept.
The final breakdown came when, against Maloney's wishes, Hunt deciced to pull out of an eliminator for the British lightweight title with Dave Stewart. And even when Maloney managed to negotiate a British title fight with Lee Meager due to Stewart's injury, Hunt and his father outpriced themselves and terms couldn't be agreed. This was the final straw that broke the camel's back in this long and successful relationship.
Amongst the opponents that Hunt has declined recently are Steve Murray, Micheal Gomez, Dean Phillips and Tontcho Tontchev. Phillips and Tontchev will now meet each other at the York Hall on the 2nd April.
We know the boxing business is hard and eventually it is all about money but current market values dictate what price the fighter is going to get and if a fighter and his team can't agree it is better they part company.
Hunt will now sign with Frank Warren's Sports Network. Neither Hunt or his father have had the courtesy to make a call to Frank Maloney the only reason he knows is due to the professional relationship between Frank Warren and himself. Frank Warren gave him a courtesy call to tell him about a meeting between himself and Mr Hunt, which shows their is
still respect and common courtesy between promoters. It is believed that Hunt will now concentrate on trying to win the WBU title.
Frank Maloney wishes Danny and his father all the best for Danny's career and only time if he has made the right decision.
